Global producer and distributor, Fremantle and the award-winning producer Richard Brown have partnered on an exclusive multi-year deal with Brown’s newly formed production company Passenger. Based in New York and London, Passenger will develop and produce scripted drama series with Fremantle co-producing and distributing the projects worldwide.
Brown was the driving force behind HBO’s globally successful anthology series True Detective and has served as executive producer on all three seasons of the critically acclaimed, multiple award-winning show. Most recently, Brown developed and executive produced the highly acclaimed Hulu / Sky Italia / Channel 4 limited series Catch-22, starring George Clooney, Kyle Chandler, Christopher Abbott and Hugh Laurie. Brown is also known for producing the Netflix action drama Outlaw King, directed by David Mackenzie and starring Chris Pine.
Brown is noted as a pioneer in cinematic scripted television programming and has a proven track record at developing high quality material and projects which have attracted world classtalent. Brown’s new company will primarily focus on original limited event series’ and anthologies, which in recent years have proven to have wide global appeal. The company will also produce multi-season dramas, documentary series and feature films.

During his career, Brown has developed a unique capacity of creating and managing productions that leverage the best from US and European creative opportunities.
Brown began his career as an A&R executive for Island Records in London. Upon relocating to the U.S., he transitioned into working in film and television, starting at Nick Wechsler’s Industry Entertainment and subsequently at Palm Pictures. Over the last 12 years Richard has had an overall producing deal at Anonymous Content, where he worked closely with SteveGolin on the company’s highly successful expansion into television.
This is the latest high-profile partnership for Fremantle. Among many others, Fremantle has teamed up with talents such as Pablo Larrain and Juan de Dios Larrain, Natalie Dormer, Paolo Sorrentino, Neil Gaiman, Neil Cross, and entities such as Working Title for The Luminaries, and Haut et Court and Spiro Films for Fertile Crescent.
Fremantle’s family of scripted producers have created several global prime-time hit dramassuch as HBO’s My Brilliant Friend and The Young Pope from Wildside in Italy, Starz’s American Gods from Fremantle North America, Amazon Prime’s Picnic at Hanging Rock from Fremantle Australia, Netflix’s The Rain from Miso and Sundance’s Deutschland86 from UFA in Germany.
