Fremantle launches Storyglass, a scripted podcast label

Fremantle today announces the launch of a new scripted podcast label, Storyglass. Created as a partnership between Fremantle’s Shotglass label in the UK and the company’s Global Drama division, the new label will commission and develop original scripted ideas from a range of storytellers from around the world.

 

To oversee the drive into scripted audio, Storyglass has hired Robert Delamere– the critically-acclaimed director and digital specialist as Creative Director. In this new role, Robert will head up the label and lead the creation of original, scripted IP in the podcasting space.

Research from Ofcom has shown that the number of adults listening to podcasts weekly has almost doubled in the past five years to 5.9m – and the sector is still booming. Fremantle’s position as a global entertainment powerhouse ensures that Storyglass will provide emerging storytellers with an effective and powerful platform to get their voices heard and their stories told.

Storyglass launches with two inaugural projects:

Baby, It’s Cold Outside by award winning writer Regina Moriarty puts an audience in the mind of an ordinary man, struggling with homelessness, who is trying to have a special day with his son, whilst keeping secret the tragedy of his circumstances. Developed by Duck Soup Films, whom Fremantle have a minority stake in, and in association with the homeless charity CRISIS – Baby It’s Cold Outside aims to take listeners on an entertaining, thought provoking and visceral journey, finding humour in the darkness whilst hitting home the very real impact of the tragic increase in homelessness in Britain right now.

Director’s Cut (w/t) by Kill The Beast is a dark comedy podcast that wraps a murder mystery in a warped cinematic nightmare. Set on a troubled film set where – in the wake of tragedy – the genre, cast and central vision are all suddenly up for grabs. it explores ego, the horrors of the never-ending creative process, and what exactly we’re all willing to sacrifice to make it to the final cut.
